Biography
Officer Mike Truskowski has been a dedicated member of the Economy Borough Police Department since January 2, 2017. A veteran of the United States Air Force who served from 2011 to 2017, he has held a lifelong ambition to pursue a career in law enforcement. Today, he takes immense pride in protecting and serving the community where he was raised and educated. Officer Truskowski is driven by a deep passion for helping others, fostering meaningful trust with residents, and striving to make a positive impact on the lives of those he serves every day.

In this exclusive Q&A, he shares his inspirations, advice for the next generation, and his deep-rooted connection to the area he serves.
- What inspired you to become a police officer?
My uncle is a police officer for Ambridge Borough. I wanted to be a police officer since I was a kid. I never truly had interest in doing anything else. - How long have you served with the department?
Since January 2nd, 2017. - Did you have another career or job before law enforcement?
I served in the United States Air Force from 2011 until 2017. - What advice would you give young people interested in law enforcement?
Make sure that this is something you want to do because you're passionate about it. Don't do it for the wrong reasons. Have pride when you put on the uniform for your department and yourself. - What’s one safety tip you wish everyone knew?
Invest in security cameras for your residence. It makes things a lot easier for us to investigate incidents and could help a neighbor as well. - What qualities make a great officer?
Somebody who listens and isn't afraid to ask questions. Somebody who treats every victim as if it were their own family member and handles it the proper way. - What does serving this community mean to you?
It means everything to me because I grew up in this area and went to Ambridge School District. I get a lot more self-gratification knowing that I'm serving a community where I have plenty of friends and family. - What’s one misconception about police officers you’d like to clear up?
That we aren't as cool as firefighters. We are definitely way cooler. - What motivates you to keep doing this work?
It is all I ever wanted to do. I enjoy my job most days. If I can help save a life or change somebody's life for the better than I know that I'm doing my job properly. - What would you tell a child who feels nervous around police officers?
That we are here to keep them safe and find a way to relate with them so they trust you. - What was your dream job as a kid?
Being a Police officer. - What hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?
Golfing, going to sporting events. - Coffee or energy drinks?
Energy drinks. - Dogs or cats?
Dogs. - Favorite sports team?
Diehard Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins fan. - If you weren’t a police officer, what would you be doing?
Probably something in the medical field. - What’s one item you always keep in your patrol bag?
A hat, flashlight, gloves. - Early bird or night owl?
Night owl, but enjoy working daylight shifts. - Favorite snack on shift?
I'm not a huge snacker on shift but if I do then beef jerky or a protein shake. - Mountains or beach?
Beach. - Favorite holiday?
Christmas. - Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
To join the military to help me be successful with my career in law enforcement. It was the best decision I ever made.
